Macronix noted that Intel has met certain physical bottleneck when shrinking the process node of NOR flash production to 65nm node and production has proven to be non-economical.

Taipei (Taiwan) - The silicon wafers used for the solar cell industry have increased significantly in price this quarter. 6" wafers are currently priced between $9.20 and $9.30 each. The Taiwanese solar cell makers claim this is an unacceptably high price. When the wafers exceeded $9 in November there was an outcry. The additional 3% has pushed the price beyond $9, what was considered to be the ceiling. As a result, silicon solar cell makers are now forced to reduce the number of products they buy, sending ripples downstream to end-product retailers.

Green Energy: Silicon Wafer Order Status Good; Thin-film Solar Cell Production On Track.

Chicago (IL) - Georges Fornay, president of Sony computer Entertainment Europe, provided the first credible information on a possible price of Sony"s next-generation game console. According to media reports, Fornay predicted a price range of 500 to 600 Euro, which could mean a price of at least $500 and as much as $750 for US consumers.

Infineon Technologies has released commercial silicon-based low noise amplifier (LNA) products that the company said offer a better performance-price ratio compared to Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) alternatives while also helping mobile phone suppliers to comply to 3GPP regulations. At the 3GSM World Congress 2007 in Barcelona, Infineon announced availability of its latest LNAs, the BGA700L16 and the BGA734L16, which are based on a combination of Infineon"s proprietary silicon germanium carbon (SiGe:C) process with an additional feature of low resistance on-chip ground contact.

AMD to support M2 launch with X2 5000+ and FX-62 CPUs.

Westlake Village (CA) - While Intel is busy bringing its next processor generation, based on the Merom core, up to speed, AMD is adding the final touches to its DDR2-based Socket M2 Athlon 64 platform, TG Daily has learned. AMD is preparing 12 M2 processors for Q2 launch, spanning the Athlon 64, X2, FX and Sempron series of CPUs. Part of the launch will be an Athlon 64 X2 5000+ and an Athlon 64 FX-62 chip.

But now, researchers at Iowa State University have found a way to boost the performance of these solar cells by 40 to 50 percent.
