Skype 2.0 Beta launches.

As those at Skype are fond of reporting, many millions of Web surfers worldwide have downloaded the company"s client; indeed, it"s available in 27 languages. A few million of these folks have even gone so far as to use it to either instant message or make unlimited voice calls to other Skype users on a daily basis. Today, with its rollout of the beta Skype 2.0, all those millions of folks could conceivably upgrade and start making free video calls too. (PC Magazine)

Console video games post continued sales declines in October; lackluster titles a key factor.
Port Washington (NY) - Continuing a disappointing trend, retail sales numbers for console video games in the US, based on October"s figures, continue to decline at a rate of 24 percent per annum, according to NPD Funworld, which tracks sales for 60 percent of the nation"s retailers. Last month, NPD also reported a 24 percent year-to-year decline in retail console game sales over September 2004.

New York (NY) - In September 1963, about a year and a half after he launched the CBS Evening News, Walter Cronkite instituted one of the most innovative developments in journalism: On the surface, it appeared that CBS merely expanded the broadcast from 15 minutes to a half-hour. But in doing so, Cronkite actually helped invent the minute-by-minute "layout" system of story prioritization that enabled television news editors to manage their broadcasts like a press agency. Shipments of PC-related chips expected to grow 20%.
Despite a slow start to the PC market"s high season, PC-related chip designers still expect that orders from OEM clients will rise significantly in September, driving shipments up 20% for the third quarter, industry sources indicated. Sources at a major supplier of quartz oscillators said judging from the order visibility for July and August, demand in the PC market is warming up, particularly for the clone segment, due to dropping CPU prices.
