Nvidia increases wafer production for entry-level AGP8X chips.

Nvidia recently placed additional orders for wafer starts at 0.14-micron for its AGP8x-based NV34 (FX5200) graphics chips at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), as demand in the entry-level segment remains strong, according to sources. The orders will provide about two million graphics chips per month, the sources indicated.

Intel's LaGrande security technology not coming to consumer PCs.

San Francisco (CA) - The Core buzz presented during IDF blurred several other important announcements - including the long awaited release of the LaGrande security spec. The creator of the spec told TG Daily that La Grande won"t be hitting home computers in the near future - as it remains a developing platform that could cause privacy concerns.

London (England) - As a response to falling online music sales, UK-based EMI Group PLC, the largest music publisher in the world, has begun a campaign to allow its music online without any form of encryption, and is pressuring digital stores like iTunes to join in the effort.

First Visible Extra-solar Light Detected From Orbiting Planet 60 Light Years Away.

HD189733 (Vulpecula) - A red dwarf star known as HD189733, about 60 light years from Earth in the constellation Vulpecula, is home to an orbiting planet which now bears the unique trait of being the first extra-solar planet ever to be observed in the visual spectrum from Earth. Using a special kind of polarization filtering, the researchers were able to mask out all other-sourced light and focus only on light reaching us reflected directly from the planet, called HD189733b.
