New Firefox kills bugs.

The first new Mozilla Firefox point release of the year is now out addressing a number of bug and security issues. Overall, Danish security firm Secunia rates the aggregate of all the security issues "highly critical." When you dig down into the actual security issues, though, there is only one that Mozilla, publicly at least, has labeled "critical." (internetnews.com)

Demand for DirectX 10-compliant graphics cards may not pick up until Vista launch.

Despite Nvidia"s launch of its DirectX 10-compliant GeForce 8800 GPU last week, demand for high-end graphics cards supporting DirectX 10 may not pick up until Microsoft"s Vista operating system (OS) hits the market, according to industry sources. The sources claimed that despite Nvidia"s head-start, it may not be too late for ATI to launch its R600 that supports DirectX 10 in the first quarter of 2007 because insufficient software support currently is hampering demand.

Lite-On IT may offer SATA DVD burners in Q4.

Lite-On IT, the largest maker of optical disc drives (ODDs) in Taiwan, is planning production of DVD burners supporting the SATA (serial advanced technology attachment) interface standard, according to industry sources.

Five million users to participate in Windows Vista RC1 test.

Redmond (WA) - Windows Vista is officially out of the beta stage and Microsoft is preparing for the first mass testing of its new operating system. A total of five million RC1 copies will be made available through the company"s customer preview program within the next days. Microsoft confirmed pricing and the release dates of the software.
