Thinking Netbooks are a bit too small? Looking for something with a little more viewing area? MSI is launching its X-Slim X320: a notebook on a diet coming in at 1.3 kg and only 1.98 cm thick!
MSI should be able to capture a lot of interest with this new release, mainly due to its light weight and overall signs of regular dietary fiber intake. The screen is a 13.4ò€ 16:9 wide view which is better than 8 to 10" but overly large, making the entire unit too big - MSI is going for portability here. The X320 uses the latest Intel dual-core Atom processor and comes with either a 4-cell or 8-cell battery, offering users up to 10 hours of run-time ò€“ thatò€™s enough run-time to impress nearly everyone if it actually holds up to it.
Overall thickness of the X320 is 1.98 cm (0.78 inches) and 6 mm (0.24 inches). For the sake of comparison, the MacBook Air is 0.76 inches at its thickest, and 0.16 inches at its thinnest, making the X320 only a hair thicker on the thinner part of the scale (hope the description didnò€™t lose anyone there). On the scale, the X320 comes in at 1.3 kg (2.86 lbs) while the MacBook Air comes in at 1.36 kg (3.0 lbs). So where the X320 lacks in the thin of things, it gains in the weight difference.
In terms of actual real world performance, there is no data available yet. Hopefully CES will bring us some numbers to go on. Other details, such as clock speed, storage size and storage technology, have yet to be revealed with validity behind the claims. There are rumors, however, that it will be available in both HDD and SDD according to many forums.
