Lacie offers biometric hard drives.

Lacie has upgraded its biometrically-protected SAFE hard drive line with a desktop edition, adding an internal firmware lock to help prevent data from being accessed if the actual hard drive is removed from the chassis. The new USB 2.0-connected desktop external SAFE drives come in 160 GB, 320 GB or 500 GB capacities, and are priced at $179, $219, and $369 capacities. (PC Magazine via ABC News)

TI controller reduces power consumption of consumer electronics.
TI announced the UCC28600 power management circuit, which will improve the energy efficiency of consumer electronics, notebooks and AC power adapters. According to the manufacturer, the controller can achieve a power efficiency of more than 88% for example in DLP HDTVs, LCDs and plasma TV and reduce standby power consumption to less than 300mW. TI also said that the UCC28600 can be used in AC adapters for notebooks and gaming devices that support 40W to 200W.

Infineon supplies RFID chips for US passports.
Munich (Germany) - Infineon is the first company to announce a major contract to supply RFID chips that will be integrated in US passports. The chips will carry digital copies of the citizen"s picture as well as the printed documentation in the passport. Infineon promises that more than "50 individual security mechanisms" are protecting the data saved on the chip.
