HP needs more discs for Lightscribe to keep edge, say disc makers.

Hewlett-Packard (HP) needs to convince more Taiwan-based makers of optical discs to increase production of Lightscribe CD-R and DVD discs in order to remain competitive against Labelflash, the other competing direct disc labeling technology, according to makers of optical discs in Taiwan. More than 70 PC vendors or makers of optical disc drives having adopted the technology since it was first offered in 2004.

Mobile e-mail revenues to pass SMS in North American wireless business market.
By the end of the decade more than 41 million North American business users will spend over $10 billion annually on wireless enterprise data services, with enterprise mobile e-mail to eclipse SMS as the prime revenue generator as early as 2009, according to research firm Strategy Analytics. Instant messaging (IM) and "presence" are also identified as hot trends as businesses realize the benefits of a mode of real time non-voice mobile communications, and ranks of Internet-savvy young adults enter the workforce.

Intel to stop production of four Pentium D CPUs by year-end.
Intel informed its channel partners in Taiwan that it plans to stop manufacturing four desktop-use Pentium D processors (model numbers 830, 840, 930 and 940) by the end of 2006, according to channel sources. The latest date to accept orders for these four Pentium D CPUs is set on December 15, 2006, with the latest delivery to be done on March 9, 2007, the sources said, noting that Intel also promised help distributors in clearing inventories.
